As you have likely heard, the City of Toronto has closed Toronto Island Park and suspended ferry service for the general public due to dangerous levels of flooding on the Toronto Islands. City-owned facilities on the Island, like Artscape Gibraltar Point, will also be closed until July 31, 2017 at the earliest. It’s about health and safety:  water levels are anticipated to decrease over the next few weeks, however the potential for major flooding along the docks, trails, beaches and roadways is high, and ground water saturation can cause ground instability in areas that aren’t flooded. This creates the potential for hazards, and access issues for emergency services.  We are monitoring the facility, structure and water level management during the closure. The date of re-opening will be based on the recommendations of the City of Toronto and its partners. We thank our tenants, clients and community for their cooperation and concern and send best wishes to our Toronto Island neighbours during this challenging time.
